Envisioning the future—Creating sustainable, healthy and resilient BioCities

Numerous challenges – from population increase to climate change threaten the sustainable development of cities and call for a fundamental urban green-blue resource management. Urban forests are vital in this transition, as they provide various ecosystem services allow re-shape re-think cities. Based on Europe-wide community effort with diverse experts centered around greening, we propose five key research fields generate knowledge required unlock changes management: circular bioeconomy, resilience, governance, social human environment, biodiversity. To support design greener, cooler, more inclusive resilient cities, all these require inter- transdisciplinary collaboration, engaging stakeholders transforming engagement functioning. We summarise main inter-, trans- und multi-disciplinary paths each field cross-cutting areas that can help address many face (e.g., modelling assessment microclimate).
